How to Get Anyone to Like You (Part 2)

In the first part of this write up, I asked you a few questions. Did you find the answers to them? You did, didn’t you? You are fantastic!

You have probably heard that the best way to get people to like you is to ask them questions or to engage them, haven’t you? Being a great learner, you also practised this. Well, did it always work? I guess not so well.

Some people you have interacted with do not like to respond to questions about themselves, do they? How about those who respond to your questions with zest only to get bored minutes later?

This can be very frustrating if you are trying to seal a deal, sell a product, gain a mentor’s attention, pass a job interview or make valuable friendships. Even love relationships suffer from this.

Let me tell you a secret: To get people to like you and stay glued to you, you need to make them feel like you are like them and share common grounds. The primary way to achieve this is not to agree to everything they say, but to create rapport.

Rapport is not just about having a conversation, it is a deep connection that is created by a feeling of similarity. You can be very different from someone, have different passions, backgrounds, hobbies and careers yet create great rapport with them.
